Intriguingly, when you look at 33a edge on from the south you can see a ghostly face with clear eyes, strong nose and lopsided mouth. I have tried to find this face standing right next to the stone without success, but it seems to me to be much clearer viewed from a distance. This is the kind of sculptural enigma that makes searching for the Avebury carvings so fascinating - art hidden in plain sight.
